Helping & Partnering

Newberg FISH gratefully accepts assistance from individuals or organizations in the following ways:

Volunteering

Everyone who works at Newberg FISH is a volunteer. There are no paid staff members. We enthusiastically welcome new volunteers and will make every effort to match our needs with your interests, skills and time availability.

It’s not just about packing food boxes. We also invite volunteers who are computer savvy, enjoy meeting new people, have office or managerial skills, or relish getting out in the community to pick up or deliver food. Most volunteers work for 3-5 hours, one day a week, but other positions are not time-specific and may fit around your other commitments.

OUR CURRENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS

WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR PUBLIC RELATIONS EFFORTS. This could be a team lead position or it could be taking on the responsibility of one task such as writing newsletters or managing our social media accounts. If you are interested in helping Newberg FISH out in this way, please email info@newbergfish.org.

We are not currently looking for volunteers to box food or work in our warehouse. If you are interested in doing this type of work, please contact info@newbergfish.org and you will be added to our Substitute List.

Food Donations

DONATIONS CAN BE DROPPED OFF BETWEEN 9:00 A.M. AND 1:00 P.M., MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, OR THE THIRD SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH.

Newberg FISH receives the majority of our food donations from local individuals, businesses, and through food drives.

We try to continually stock certain foods. To reduce our need to purchase these foods, we encourage you to donate items from the following list:

  • Canned foods, such as chili, hearty soups, pork & beans, corn, green beans, tuna and other proteins, fruit, tomatoes, and refried beans
  • Dry staples, such as beans, oatmeal, cereal, pasta, and flour
  • Packaged food, such as macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, and cooking oil
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables from our local gardeners

Food Drives

A popular way to donate food directly to Newberg FISH is to conduct a food drive.  Before starting a food drive, we ask that you contact us at (503) 538-4444 or info@newbergfish.org to discuss any details and how we can provide assistance to you. We do have limited collection barrels for food drives if needed.
